Meet our newest staff writer, Sidney Kaliher!
“My name is Sidney Kaliher, and I’m a junior at St. Michael’s Catholic Academy. I originally discovered my passion for homeless ministries in seventh grade working in the Caritas kitchen on a field trip with Regents School of Austin. My experience was fantastic, cup overflowing with joy, not only because I was serving food, but also because I got the opportunity to sit down and talk to countless, remarkable human beings. I was captivated by their stories and personalities. Despite my age, I’ve had much experience interacting with and ministering to the homeless since. I have worked with Caritas, Church Under the Bridge, Mission Waco, My Brother’s Keeper, Community First Village, and many other organizations geared towards ministering to and raising awareness for homelessness. My service has inspired me to have a desire to possibly go into Nonprofit Studies and Journalism in college, hoping for a career ministering to the homeless through my writing.
A few weeks ago, having been rejected several times due to age restrictions, I contacted Mike Featherstone in pursuit of volunteer opportunities working directly with the homeless. God finally opened the door I had been eagerly awaiting when Mr. Featherstone connected me with Isabella Zou, who had happened to be in my exact position a year prior. Isabella and I bonded immediately. Under her wing, I have become a Staff Writer for Austin Street Humans. I am in love with this mission and cannot wait to see the impact it has on not only my soul, but society as a whole.”
Stay tuned for Sidney’s first story and reflection. Excited for her work with us!
Welcome Sidney!
