I met ‘Deborah‘ at The Great Thanksgiving Banquet. Her story reminds me again of the role of family in the lives of people experiencing homelessness—she would love support from her daughters, for instance, whereas others are too proud to accept help from family, whereas others aren’t even within range of family members at all.
Homelessness can be a source of shame in a family, or not. Again, it seems to be a case-by-case sort of thing.
During this holiday season especially, I can imagine the loneliness a lack of family could bring. I wish my homeless friends and acquaintances well.
